Our Fair Employment and Housing Defense Practice
We handle the defense of a wide range of claims against property owners and employers, including:
- Allegations of violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We represent landlords and business owners who are sued for alleged failure to make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities. Attorney Thomas Cummings has successfully defended claims against many repeat plaintiffs and was interviewed about his successes on KFI 640 radio. To listen to the interview, click here.
- Charges of rent discrimination. We defend residential landlords who have been sued for discrimination in their tenant selection. The claims we defend include refusal to rent, as well as the termination of rental agreements. We have handled the defense of claims alleging discrimination based on disability, race, ethnicity and gender.
- Claims of employment discrimination or harassment. We represent employers in cases involving allegations of discrimination under state or federal law, including claims of discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion or national origin. We also defend employers against charges of sexual harassment. We successfully represented a city in Orange County where the Chief of Police and one of his lieutenants were accused of harassment, gender bias and discrimination.
- Allegations of wrongful discharge. We defend employers who have been charged with firing, discharging or releasing employees in violation of anti-discrimination laws. We also represent employers in claims of retaliatory discharge or violation of whistleblower protection statutes.
